BLACKPINK (블랙핑크 beullaegpingkeu), also stylized as BLΛƆKPIИK, is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment and the first girl group to debut under the same entertainment company seven years after 2NE1. The group consists of four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa. They officially debuted on August 8, 2016 with the digital single album SQUARE ONE.

Career
2015-2016: Members reveal, group name reveal
(G)I-DLE Miyeon was supposed to debut as the fifth member of a group of YG trainees who would later become BLACKPINK. Miyeon joined YG the same time as Jennie, but left in 2015, one year before the four girls officially debuted. The band's promotional preparation began in November 2011 with the revelation of an teaser image of Eun-bi, who was speculated as a candidate for the group's line-up.
On May 31, 2016 YG Entertainment began releasing individual teaser photos of the members for the agency's then-unnamed, upcoming girl group on Instagram, starting with Jennie the same day.[1] This was followed by Lisa on June 7,[2] Jisoo on June 14 [3], and lastly Rosé on June 21.[4]
On June 29, YGE released photos of the group's members together and revealed their name to be BLACKPINK.[5][6]
On July 6, YGE published a dance practice video on the group's YouTube channel as an introduction.[7]
On July 29, it was revealed that the group would debut on August 8. The tracks "BOOMBAYAH" and "WHISTLE" from their debut single album SQUARE ONE, were revealed on August 5 and 6, respectively.[8][9]
2016: 1st single album, 1st music show win
On August 8, BLACKPINK debuted with their first single album SQUARE ONE. On August 21, BLACKPINK won their first music show award on Inkigayo, only 13 days after their debut, making them the one of the fatest artists to win.[10]
2017: 3rd digital single, Japanese debut
On June 22, they released their third digital single "As If It's Your Last".
On July 20, BLACKPINK held the showcase Japan Premium Debut Showcase at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
On August 30, they made their japanese debut with the mini album BLACKPINK.
2018: 1st repackage album, 1st mini album, 1st Japanese arena tour, 1st world tour, 1st collaboration single
In the continuation of BLACKPINK, BLACKPINK released the album's repackage, Re: BLACKPINK, on March 28.
On June 15, they released their first mini album SQUARE UP, with its title track "DDU-DU DDU-DU". "DDU-DU DDU-DU" debuted at No.55 on Billboard Hot 100.
From July 24 to December 24, they held their first Japanese arena tour Arena Tour 2018.
On November 10, BLACKPINK kickstarted their first world tour "In Your Area" with a concert in Seoul.
On October 19, they released the single "Kiss and Make Up" with English and Albanian singer and songwriter Dua Lipa.
On November 23, BLACKPINK released their first Japanese studio album BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA.
2019: 2nd mini album, Coachella, 1B views
On April 5, BLACKPINK released their second mini album KILL THIS LOVE.
On April 12 and 19, they performed at U.S festival Coachella 2019, becoming the first-ever female K-pop group to perform at the event.[11]
On November 11, "DDU-DU DDU-DU" became the first music video by a K-pop group to reach 1 billion views on YouTube.[12]
2020: 2nd collaboration single, 1st single album, 3rd collaboration single, 1st studio album, documentary film, "Group of The Year", 1st online concert
On May 29, they released the single "Sour Candy" in collaboration with American singer Lady Gaga. It debuted at No.33 at Billboard Hot 100, No.8 at ARIA Singles Chart and No.17 at UK Official Singles Chart.
On June 26, BLACKPINK released their first single album How You Like That as pre-release single for their upcoming studio album.
On August 28, they released the single "Ice Cream" in collaboration with American singer-songwriter Selena Gomez.
On October 2, they released their first studio album THE ALBUM.
On October 14, they released the documentary film BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky, through American streaming platform Netflix.
On November 20, American lifestyle magazine Variety announced that they would be named "Group of The Year" in their 2020 Hitmakers issue.[13]
On December 27, later postoned to January 31, 2021, they held their first online concert BLACKPINK: The Show, exclusively on YouTube.
2021: 3rd Japanese studio album, movie
On August 3, BLACKPINK release a Japanese version of their studio album THE ALBUM. The next day, on August 4, a documentary film entitled BLACKPINK THE MOVIE was released into theaters in South Korea and worldwide, which included interviews with the group as well as live performances from The Show and the In Your Area World Tour.[14][15]
2022: virtual in-game concert, 4th digital single, 2nd studio album, "2022 Entertainer Of The Year"
From July 22 to 31, BLACKPINK held their first virtual in-game concert through PUBG Mobile's BLACKPINK: THE VIRTUAL.
On August 19, they released their fourth digital single "Shut Down", a pre-release single for their upcoming studio album.
On September 16, they released their second studio album BORN PINK.
On October 15, BLACKPINK kickstarted their second world tour "BORN PINK" with a concert in Seoul.
They were named the "2022 Entertainer Of The Year" by TIME Magazine, becoming the first girl group in history to receive the title.[16]
2023: Coachella 2023 headliners
On April 15 and 22, BLACKPINK headlined U.S festival Coachella 2023, becoming the first K-pop artist in history to headline the festival.[17]
On August 23, they officially released the game BLACKPINK THE GAME, with its OST "THE GIRLS" released on August 25.
On December 6, it was announced that all the members had renewed their contract for group activities with YG Entertainment.[18] However, on December 19, YG confirmed that none of the members renewed their contracts for individual promotions.[19]
2024: YG announcement regarding 2025 activities
On July 23, YG announced that BLACKPINK will be having a comeback in 2025 and will be going on a world tour.[20] [21]

Endorsements
Within three weeks of debut, BLACKPINK placed second behind EXO for brand reputation based on a study by Korea Institute of Corporate Reputation in August 2016. Another study targeting girl groups revealed that the group's brand influence had already surpassed that of Girls' Generation and Twice for September. The chief of the reputations research lab described the feat as a "first". They became endorsers for several brands including Reebok, Moonshot and Saint Scott. They were also featured as models for major magazines including Nylon Korea, South Korean 1st Look, and Singapore's TEENAGE.
